Rancho Nuevo Caves
Parque Ecoturístico Rancho Nuevo is known for its cool pine forest air and mysterious underground cave system stretching over 10 kilometres and diving further than 500 metres deep. Rancho Nuevo Caves stretch deep into the limestone, with walkable chambers full of stalactites and stalagmites that feel like stepping into a forgotten realm.
The best thing about this area is that you can explore caves, ride horses through the forest, and picnic under towering trees.
What You Can Do Solo:
Wander the forest trails and explore the main cave that stretches 750metres: it’s lit and safe for casual visitors, with dramatic rock formations. Picnic tables and grassy areas make it ideal for a chill afternoon.
What requires a guide:
Beyond the main tourist cave path, explore beyond with a guide where the cave system gets darker and more technical.
Walk-in vs Booking
Walk-ins are welcome daily. Most activities—cave entry, horseback riding, picnicking—can be paid for on-site.
Getting There From San Cristóbal:
Ride your motorbike south just 12 km from the city center, with a paved road and a clearly marked entrance. It’s a peaceful day escape with forest vibes and underground mystery.
