What It Is

El Arco del Tiempo (“Arch of Time”) is the largest natural arch on the planet—158 meters high, 255 meters long, and 35 meters wide. But it’s not just an arch. It’s a cathedral of stone carved over millions of years, surrounded by canyon walls that soar up to 500 meters and jungle that hums with life.

UNESCO recognizes it for four universal values:

Cultural Expression – Ancient Zoque cave art and ritual sites dating back 5,000–10,000 years
Natural Wonder – Home to over 38 abysses
Geological Marvel – A gateway to the subterranean world through vast cave systems
Biodiversity – Over 1,500 recorded species, 180 of which are new to science

Getting There

From San Cristóbal, ride to Cintalapa. From there, continue to Ejido General Cárdenas, the launch point for all hikes and tours.

The final stretch includes dirt roads—off-road-ready bikes recommended

What You Can Do Solo

You require a local guide to traverse through the canyons and reach the arch of time. Trust us, it is worth it!

With your local community guide, trek through the jungle for 3 hours to reach the arch, rappel down the steep walls, splash in the river, and enjoy the feeling of silence in a place of granduer untouched nature.

Note: Even the basic hike requires a local guide from General Cárdenas. This is for safety and conservation. Tour companies departing from San Cristobal must also take these guides.
