El Chiflon

Chasing waterfalls? El Chiflón is calling!

If you’re the kind of traveler who rides for the thrill and hikes for the view—this one’s for you.

Getting There

From San Cristóbal, ride through valleys and villages for 2.5 hours south until you reach the entrance to El Chiflon. Entry is just 30 pesos, and secure parking is available for bikes.

The Hike

El Chiflón is a well-maintained trail through lush forest, leading you past five breathtaking waterfalls. Each one builds on the last:

  • El Suspiro welcomes you with gentle cascades

  • Ala de Ángel fans out wide and photogenic

  • Velo de Novia roars with a 120-meter drop

  • Arcoiris catches the sunlight just right for a rainbow shimmer

  • Quinceañera offers a quiet, shaded finale

The full hike is about 1.5 hours roundtrip, with plenty of spots to pause, swim, and soak in the view.

Want to go further? You will need to find a place to stay overnight.

Extend your adventure by exploring Montebello Lakes, just 30 minutes away—perfect if you’re turning this into a multi-day loop. For 100 pesos, you’ll access a network of 59 lakes across pine forests, with highlights like:

  • Kayaking at Lake Pojoj
