Chorreadera Caving
Cascada Chorreadera and caves is reknown for its natural beauty where a stream emerges from a cave, falling as a waterfall from a height of 25 meters with natural pools below among jungle vegetation climbing the limestone walls of the mountains.
The best thing about this area is that you can go hiking, swimming, climbing and canyoning.
What you can do solo:
Visit the waterfall and canyon entrance: The dramatic 65-foot waterfall spilling from the cave mouth is accessible and stunning. You can swim in the natural pools, relax by the river, and enjoy the shady picnic areas.
What requires a guide:
Deeper cave exploration: The full 3.5 km cave system includes over 20 rappels, swims, and technical navigation through narrow corridors and vertical drops. This part is not safe to do alone—it requires specialized gear, experience, and a guide.
Canyoning tours: Guided adventures typically last 4–6 hours and include rappelling, waterfall climbs, and underground swims. These are led by certified experts and include gear, insurance, and transport.
Walk-in vs Booking
Walk-ins are possible, especially during the dry season (November–May), but availability depends on guide schedules and group sizes. It is best to reach out to El Chorreadero Waterfall Tourist Center before departing and making arrangements.

Booking ahead is recommended if you're on a tight schedule or want to guarantee a spot—especially for solo travelers or small groups.
Getting there from San Cristóbal:
Drive towards Chiapa de Corzo and follow the signs for Zoológico Miguel Álvarez del Toro or Cascada El Chorreadero. The road is paved but narrow—watch for local traffic and curves. Enjoy sweeping views as you descend from the highlands into warmer lowlands.
