Cascada El Aguacero (“waterfall of the downpour”) lives up to its name. A frothy, multi-tiered cascade tumbles into emerald pools, spraying mist across the canyon walls. It’s wild, refreshing, and cinematic—perfect for swimming, lounging, or just letting the roar wash over you.

Getting There

Ride through rolling hills, dense forest, and indeginous culturally significant villages and dive into the heart of the Selva Ocote Biosphere Reserve. Park at the top and get ready to descend—740 steps stand between you and one of Chiapas’ best-kept secrets.

The Hike

You have descended the 740 steps and now its time to walk along the river and reach the waterfall. November - April is the easiest when you can follow a sandy riverbed and descend through sunlit canyon walls. May - October, it is perfect for the spirited traveller. The jungle wraps around you, tangled and lush, with the sound of water guiding your way.

Feeling bold? Go deeper

If conditions allow, explore the surrounding jungle trails. Keep your eyes peeled for monkeys, toucans, and—if you’re lucky—ocelots or jaguars. For the truly curious, there’s Cueva del Encanto, a 200-meter underground river that feeds the falls. It’s mysterious, moody, and magical.

Toilets are only at the top. 

Bring water, snacks, and enclosed shoes.
